Behavior management is an important component of any out of school time program. But as children reach the teen years, there’s no room for sticker charts. Helping teens use their natural desires for autonomy and control, out of school programs can shift into the role of coach, guide and mentor to support healthy boundaries while maintaining a program that is enjoyable for everyone.
Using a trauma-informed approach to behavior management, which focuses on developing skills, participants in this session will draw upon existing research from experts such as Dr. Ross Greene and his Collaborative and Proactive Solutions approach. Participants will gain additional tools to use to promote positive behaviors as well as to address typical and atypical problem behaviors that may present themselves in the out of school setting.
Come prepared with your real life problem behaviors and leave with strategies from a mental health consultant that you can put to work immediately. This webinar is best viewed on a laptop or desktop computer. This series is presented by the Indiana Afterschool Network.
