*** Breakout Networking Precedes 6:00 - 6:30 PM ***

Speaker: Matthew Runkle / Sr. Manager, Product Security @ SmartBear

Implementing security throughout the software development lifecycle is an endless endeavor that parallels the improvement cycle inherent to software quality, agile, and DevOps methodologies. However, it can also be an incredibly rewarding effort when teams rally around common goals, empower champions, and form true, collaborative partnerships. Matthew Runkle, Sr. Manager of Product Security at SmartBear will show how diverse teams are rallying together to deliver high quality, secure software to their customers through empathy, compromise, and a lot of hard work.

· Learn how to build effective partnerships between security, development, and quality teams
· Adopt “good enough” security strategies to maximize effectiveness and minimize despair
· Understand how security is really a software quality issue

Matthew Runkle leads the Product Security efforts at SmartBear, where equipping development teams with the best tools to ensure software quality is a passion. Matt’s career spans the defense and commercial industries, where he learned to appreciate both offensive and defensive security techniques from the perspective of a software developer. As part of Veracode, he partnered with customers to identify application security weaknesses and prioritize sensible remediation strategies, while also leading a team to improve static scanning capabilities. Matt is a life-long New Englander who currently resides in the Boston suburbs with his husband Blair and their 3 dogs: Arya, Xena, and Carolina. Outside of work, he enjoys traveling (sans pandemic) and pretending he’s on an HGTV home renovation show.
