Stories We Share: How to Overcome Divides in a Polarized America

Despite massive strides for LGBTQ+ freedoms in the past decade, our nation continues to suffer from intense political polarization that has become intertwined with social issues that affect so many of us personally. Using lessons from both past civil rights movements and research in social psychology, we are going to explore ways to build the trusting relationships we need to break the culture war cycle. Personal storytelling, learning how to “call in” instead of call out, and strategies for deep conversations are three key approaches that we’ll examine for use in our workplaces, within our families, in the community, and on social media. Come ready to share any of your own stories and perspectives in this inclusive seminar!
