Building Performance Standards (BPS) are an emerging policy tool to help drive emission-reductions within the built environment. Higher performing buildings can result in increased occupant comfort, energy savings, increased resilience and other benefits. Cities and counties interested in BPS policies now have access to a new resource, which outlines steps from BPS policy exploration to implementation. Throughout, the BPS Framework lifts up considerations for equity and workforce development. This webinar and document are based on key learnings from a workshop and 18 months of biweekly sessions among communities in the American Cities Climate Challenge and the Urban Sustainability Directors Network. This webinar will review the basics of BPS, highlight the framework and feature perspectives on BPS from Denver, CO and Montgomery County, MD who were in the workshop cohort.
