In 2020, an independent review of the BC health care system led by Mary Ellen Turpel-Lafond investigated racism experienced by Indigenous people using the provincial health care system. The review released the "In Plain Sight" report with detailed findings of anti-Indigenous racism and recommendations for next steps.
Join BCHC members in discussing the "In Plain Sight" report with a focus to learn from the report, make connections between anti-Indigenous racism and health care, and how the recommendations of the report can be applied in our personal and professional lives. Since this will be a discussion based reading group - we highly recommend that participants commit to reading the "In Plain Sight" report before the group meets.
Note that this reading group is primarily for settlers to learn from and apply the lessons of the "In Plain Sight" report with the goal of engaging in reconciliation, which is "a process of healing of relationships that requires public truth sharing, apology, and commemoration that acknowledge and redress past harms."
