Graphic Novel Book Group with Emily discusses Junji Ito's Cat Diary and Rascal

Led (virtually!) by Greenlight bookseller Emily, our graphic novel book group reads and discusses comics and graphic novels in a variety of genres. For June, the group discusses two graphics novels about the highs and lows of cat ownership: Junji Ito’s Cat Diary and Jean-Luc Deglin’s Rascal. In Junji Ito’s Cat Diary, the master of Japanese horror manga presents a series of hissterical tales chronicling his real-life trials and tribulations of becoming a cat owner. Meet Yon, a ghastly-looking family cat, and Mu, an adorable Norwegian forest cat. Despite being a dog person, J-kun finds himself purrsuaded by their odd cuteness and thus begins his comedic struggle to gain the affection of his new feline friends. In Rascal, Jean-Luc Deglin paints a purring portrait of one unforgettable black cat, an elegant inky swirl in a world of striking blue tones. Hilarious and heartwarming, exasperating and enchanting, Rascal captures the full range of emotions that come with keeping God's cutest killing machine as a pet.
