What is ankle mobility?
Ankle mobility is the combination of strength (or stability) + flexibility in the ankle joint.
Good ankle mobility is considered when the muscle tissues, ligaments, tendons and fascia surrounding the ankle joint are not tight and are able to move the way they should.
The Importance of good ankle mobility & how it affects movement and sport
People who have poor ankle mobility may suffer from aches and pains in the hips, back or knees. They will also struggle to get into postures such as garland pose or catch an Olympic lift in a deep squat, affecting their fitness performance.
Poor mobility can also contribute to further injury so it is important to maintain good movement and strength in all joints as well as just the ankles.
