Effective class discussions are the result of planning and preparation. We will discuss the planning process, different levels of questioning, setting clear expectations, techniques for drawing out responses, and assessment of class discussions. During this session, the presenter will demonstrate the Fishbowl Discussion to have participants think critically about health literature. Participants will learn how to keep the conversation going and to make sure everyone is heard. Techniques for assessing student discussions will be presented. Handouts including sample assessments will be provided.

Your Presenter: Kacey Lynn DiGiacinto is a tenured, Associate Professor at Elizabeth City State University (ECSU). She is, also, the Interim Director for the Center for Teaching and Learning. Dr. DiGiacinto attended West Virginia University and earned her Bachelor of Arts in English (2005), Master of Arts in Secondary Education (2007), Master of Science in School Health Education (2009) and Doctor of Philosophy in Kinesiology in Physical Education Teacher Education (2010). Kacey is currently the 2019-2020 SHAPE America Southern District College/University Health Educator of the Year and the 2019 NCAAHPERD-SM College/University Health Education Teacher of the Year. In 2019, she earned the Follansbee, West Virginia Thanks for Shining Award. Dr. DiGiacinto served as the Kinesiology Program Coordinator for 3 years and the Physical Education Teaching Program Coordinator for 7 years.
