The IFB Debating Society: ‘In-laws should be outlawed when it comes to the family business’
‘It is better to debate a question without settling it than to settle a question without debating it’ Joseph Joubert, French Moralist & Essayist.

The IFB Debating Society is a safe and fun space where family business members can get together to explore the various conundrums facing family businesses and support one another in making better and stronger decisions.

Our upcoming session will take place on Thursday 22 April and we will debate the motion ‘In-laws should be outlawed when it comes to the family business’

Families tend to have polarising views on whether in-laws, even if highly qualified, should work in the family business. Some forbid in-laws from joining the family business altogether, keeping ownership rights and jobs for blood relatives, whereas others have a fully inclusive policy that welcomes in-laws. Both approaches have their pros and cons and this is often a key topic of debate in a lot of business families.
