WOMEN ON THE NET | LATONYA PEOPLES: A SOULFUL SUNDAY
Born and raised in Topeka, Kansas. LaTonya Peoples began taking violin lessons at the age of five and at the age of sixteen became a certified Suzuki Violin Instructor. In 1994 LaTonya graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Music Therapy from Howard University. Now based in Atlanta, Georgia, she currently works as a Music Producer, Kronos Analyst and Private Suzuki Violin Instructor.
She toured with UniverSoul Circus, as a featured Violinist and Vocalist and was a featured performer with Andrea Meyerson's L.A. Women's Fest in 2006. She also performed for the Kansai Music Conference in Japan.
LaTonya can be heard as a Violinist/Vocalist on CDs, videos, and DVDs with such artists as India Arie, Ken Ford, and Doria Roberts. Her music has been licensed by "Love and Hip Hop." Her live strings have been recorded for the acclaimed Playwright Trey Anthony for her production of "How Black Mothers Say I Love You."
Most recently, her vocal rendition of "Wade In The Water" was featured on ABC's hit Television Series "Scandal."
She has performed in ensembles opening for Gladys Knight, Meshell Ndegeocello, Angelique Kidjo, and Alice Walker. She has been featured on BET’s Jazz Central and on National Public Radio's "Wade in The Water" Series with Sweet Honey In The Rock.
