BBPA: Election Debrief for the PA Business Community
The results of the November election, particularly who becomes governor, will have a consequential impact on the health of the state’s economy and democracy. The full time state legislature, already known as a highly partisan body may become even less able to address the state’s various economic and social challenges. How will such contentious issues as election security, vote by mail, infrastructure investment and workforce development be handled in what is likely to be an increasingly polarized political environment?

Join us on November 15th for a lively discussion on how the state of politics in PA may influence the Commonwealth’s ability to retain its competitive edge, attract industry, and encourage or discourage collaboration among lawmakers on issues important to Pennsylvanians. We’ll also discuss how growing mistrust of the election system and adoption of misinformation may impact policymaking in Harrisburg come 2023.

According to many observers, the rules that govern how Harrisburg works discourages bipartisanship. Businesses experience this firsthand and have a clear interest in the governor and legislature being able to work together to increase public confidence in the functionality of government. A recent Marist College poll found that democracy is the top concern of 29% of likely voters. An encouraging 66% of adults say they are either very confident or confident in their state or local government to run a fair and accurate election.
