What I Didn’t Expect When I Was Expecting (Sponsored by Cassels)
Lawyering is a profession that attracts those who love planning and certainty. What happens when a lawyer becomes a parent, and realizes that every kid is different and that there is no manual for how to be a working parent? Our panel of 3 Asian Canadian lawyers, all with children under age 5, will candidly share their unexpected surprises and lessons learned. Strategies for the mentorship, retention, and advancement of lawyers with young families and other caregiving responsibilities will be discussed as we build community amongst lawyers in this season of their lives. Lawyers who are thinking of having children, who have other caregiving responsibilities, or who want to support their colleagues through structural and institutional change are also encouraged to attend.
