La Mesita March Webinar: Navigating Ethical Challenges in Therapy: Addressing Human Rights and Oppression
Description:

Oppression, or the unjust treatment and control of people perceived as inferior in society, dehumanizes and harms people. Oppression has significant consequences for people’s health and well-being. As therapists, addressing all forms of oppression in practice becomes a human rights imperative. However, topics related to oppression as an ethical issue are often neglected in therapy. This presentation aims to discuss and generate ideas on ways to navigate oppression in therapy grounded in human rights and ethical principles.

Learning Objectives:

Participants will be able to describe the different domains of oppression.

Participants will be able to name how oppression affects the health and well-being of people.

Participants will be able to identify possible challenges and ethical pitfalls that can arise when oppression is part of the therapeutic context.

Participants will be able to identify strategies to address oppression in therapy by using an ethical decision-making process grounded in human rights.
