Intro to Oscillatory Compaction

In this presentation you will learn about oscillatory compaction. Oscillatory rollers help improve productivity and create a smoother finish on challenging mixes. Oscillation works by using exciters to move the drum back and forward, rather than directing forces downwards as with a conventional vibratory drum. This method of compaction works well for thin HMA pavement surface layers less than 1.5 inches and HMA mixes with higher percentages of RAP. Oscillatory rollers may also be use where vibratory rollers are not typically allowed such as near hospitals and on bridge decks.
