Building With, Not For: Community Engagement Rooted in Community Organizing

Building With, Not For: Community Engagement Rooted in Community Organizing is a two-part workshop on engagement, designed to (re)center our communities in our community work.

Over two 2-hour sessions held on March 23 and April 6 via Zoom (with breaks!), we'll discuss the principles and practices of *meaningfully* inclusive community engagement, and understand the importance of moving from and with consent, care, and accountability in this practice. We'll also explore specific organizing skills, tools, and techniques we can use to transform how we approach, plan, and follow through on our community work. Participants will apply these learnings to a real-world initiative of your choosing and will leave with a plan of action. 

Seasoned engagement professionals, folks brand new to public outreach, and everyone in between are all warmly encouraged to participate.

Preparation: Watch this 35-minute introductory presentation from Cuán beforehand—https://youtu.be/TDBC3q3BT0Y—then come prepared to put your heart and mind to work! We recommend you set yourself up for these sessions by sitting in a comfortable space with some water, pen & paper, and anything else you need to be present (i.e. a fidget, knitting supplies, stuff to doodle with, etc).

SPACE IS LIMITED TO 30 SEATS AND THOSE WORKING IN THE NORTHERN REGION WILL GET PRIORITY.
