This special presentation for psychologists and other mental health professionals is being offered by members of the team at the Health Security for New Mexicans Campaign.
Presenters will include Leverett Millen, Ph.D., a New Mexico psychologist; Mary Feldblum, Ph.D., the Executive Director of the Campaign; Ester Griego, a longtime activist and businesswoman, who is on the Campaign’s Executive Committee; and Dana Schultz Millen, Ph.D., M.P.H., the Education and Outreach Coordinator for the Campaign.
The New Mexico Health Security Act will be considered at the upcoming legislative session, which begins in January 2021. Under this plan, the state of New Mexico would set up its own self-insured health program. It would ensure that all New Mexicans have health coverage, shifting private insurance to a supplemental role. The Health Security Act would provide comprehensive, quality services; it would fully protect those with preexisting conditions; and it would offer freedom of choice of health care providers, even across state lines. The comprehensive benefit package would be no less than what is offered to state employees, with sliding scale premiums based on income.
The plan offers many benefits for psychologists, including mental health parity, full transparency in the operation of the plan, and negotiation of fees by providers. Here are links to the Campaign’s website https://www.nmhealthsecurity.org/

On September 21, the presenters will offer details about the Health Security plan for approximately one hour, then allow time for questions and discussion.
