Emotional Intelligence: The Cornerstone of Leadership Success
Great leaders not only know and manage themselves well, but they are also able to harness the power of emotions to create significant connections with others and be positive influences on their teams and throughout their organizations. We call this emotional intelligence or EQ. This session will challenge leaders to tap into EQ to practice better self-management
and handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically.

The lead instructor for this training program is Steven G. Meilleur, Ph.D., SPHR. Dr. Meilleur has more than 40 years of professional experience in human resources management and organizational development in the public, private non‐profit and private for‐profit sectors. He specializes in all areas of human resource management, strategic and operational planning, organizational research & development, training & development, non‐profit organization management & board development, and management systems design.

Currently, Dr. Meilleur is Senior Vice‐President, Risk Services - Human Resources and Employment with Poms & Associates, providing training, consulting, and advisory services for clients around the United States. He has also served as HR Director for the City of Rio Rancho, VP of HR & Risk Management for Adelante Development Center, HR Team Leader for Plains Electric G&T Cooperative, Director of the UNM Management Development Center, and Director of the State Bar of New Mexico Center for Legal Education.

Dr. Meilleur also is a part-time Lecturer at the UNM School of Public Administration, teaching in the areas of human resource management, leadership, conflict management, organizational development, and non-profit organization management.
