A workshop to take a pause together as a sector; to bring together people labelled with intellectual disability and their support networks (all developmental services staff - admin, direct service professionals, all family members and supporters)
This workshop will be a way of creating something together - with our breath; a mindful work of art you create in your own home over the computer. It's an innovative self-care tool using both art and mindfulness that's been developed with autistic adults in the CAMH Azrieli Neurodevelopmental Centre’s mindfulness research groups for autistic adults. Drawing Our Breath Together will introduce you to an accessible and fun way of developing mindfulness skills with the creation of art. And the bonus? You get a masterpiece to hang on the wall at the end of it, and remind you of your breath!
All participants need is paper, a few different colours of pens (Or markers or crayons), and a willingness to have some fun while practicing self-care. The tool we will practice is great for all ages. Drawing your breath is an engaging self-care tool staff can use in their work settings with people with disabilities, or use themselves, or even with their children at home. This can also be used as a team building exercise for management staff, or a fun way to engage with family at the dinner table after dinner.
Option: You can take a snap shot of your art at the end, and send it to us. We will collect all the images we receive and create a collage of our collective breath.
