Join us online for coffee Sunday morning with guest and local butterfly expert Felix Sperling.
Pigeon Lake butterfly habitats vary from boggy fens with sphagnum moss to classic aspen parkland and agricultural land. Each of these has distinctive butterfly species, including some that are at the southernmost edge of their range. My surveys at Itaska over the past 25 years show that butterfly diversity is highly dynamic, with some species disappearing alongside vegetation changes while new invading species continue to appear.
Short bio: Felix Sperling is at the University of Alberta, where he is a Professor in Biological Sciences and a Curator of the Strickland Museum of Entomology.
