A Birder's Guide to Understanding Bats
Bats share the ability to fly with birds, much sets the two taxa apart. This presentation will address the decline of bat populations, particularly in California, with a focus on shrinking habitat across the landscape. Participants will get a better understanding of the special life histories and roosting ecology of these unique mammals, learn more about how bats use and depend on roost sites, and gain insights in how we as humans perceive their value. We'll also look at some of the ways we protect bats through regulations, and mitigate direct mortality of bats and loss of bat habitat.
