We will be reading Jack Wertheimer's The New American Judaism, Princeton University Press 2018. Wertheimer, an historian, is a long-time faculty member and former provost of the Jewish Theological Seminary. In this book, he uses a wide range of sources, particularly drawing on interviews across the denominations, to understand how American Judaism is practiced today. He finds many different trends.
The book is especially useful for discussing, rather than providing a final analysis of, where, how, and why Judaism is practiced as it is today.
