CHW Essentials
This course will help prepare students to serve as a Community Health Worker (CHW). The primary function of the CHW is to link the community and its health and social service systems in order to improve and maintain quality health and wellness in the community. To accomplish this, the student will study access to such services such as advocacy, outreach, referrals, community education, mentoring and social support.

The course addresses all requirements as outlined by the Oregon Health Authority and upon receiving a passing grade, students will qualify to apply for accreditation as a Community Health Worker to the Oregon Health Authority for the State of Oregon.

This course uses a hybrid model of delivery; students will attend 16 in person classroom sessions (via Zoom) totaling 40 contact hours and complete online hours individually, totaling 45 hours.

* High School Diploma or GED
* Reading and writing proficiency in English language
* Access to the internet and a computer
* Interest in promoting healthy lifestyles
* Motivation and ability to study independently

Please prepare to attend all classroom sessions. You will need a computer with internet and video/audio capabilities. Next steps will be provided via email once you submit your Zoom registration.
