The power of human rights to protect tenure rights
The aim of this hybrid event is to call for a human rights-based approach to strengthen responsible land governance in times of multiple crises where competition for land is increasing The event will elaborate on the link between land governance as defined in the VGGT and human rights, which form the basis of these guidelines. Building on this link, the implementation of the VGGT can enhance the protection of tenure rights.

National human rights institutions, civil society organizations, government actors and international development partners will discuss the potential of building on the human rights system to strengthen responsible land governance and the need to protect land rights defenders (using a human rights-based approach) in countries where civil space is shrinking.

The Human Rights 4 Land Monitoring Tool will be presented and a group of human rights and land actors and government representatives will reflect on its relevance and applicability. They will explore synergies between land and human rights actors and ways to strengthen good governance of land through a human rights-based approach.
