Over the past two weeks, communities across the US have held protests and vigils in the wake of the murder of George Floyd and others who have died during arrest or in police custody. For some, police brutality, racism, and white supremacist ideology are all too familiar topics; at the same time, many Americans, especially White Americans, are just beginning to recognize the injustices that people of color, especially Black Americans, face every day.
SIETAR USA invites its members to join us for a free Town Hall style event where we can join in conversation to be together in support and to hear about your concerns as members. Unfortunately, racism and inequities are part of SIETAR USA and are something that the Board is working hard to dismantle. Such efforts cannot be achieved by the Board alone – we need a rich conversation among us as members in order to change our organization’s norms and culture. It also requires action on each of our parts to create the kind of change we want to see so that everyone, especially Black Americans, who wish to be a part of SIETAR USA feel included and can show up fully to SIETAR USA events and meetings. when you register you will be asked if you would like to speak at the event. During the event, we will use a speakers list and call on each speaker. At the time you are invited to speak, you may make your remarks or pass. If there is time, we will also open the floor for anyone who had not signed up in advance to make some remarks.
