This Friday May 14th, join a conversation with Frank Castelli and Mark Sarvary about "Is anybody there? An equitable and inclusive plan to encourage classroom camera use." Despite the many benefits of students turning on their cameras, many instructors may face the challenge of low camera use by students in synchronous remote classes. When faced with this challenge in our large introductory biology laboratory course, we took an evidence-based approach and surveyed our students to find out their reasons for not using cameras. With this information, we validated our decision not to require cameras and developed an equitable and inclusive plan to encourage camera use. We will present our findings and suggestions, and we share how our plan has worked for us. There will also be opportunities to share experiences and ideas in breakout sessions.
