The Foundations for a Thoughtful Judaism: Peoplehood - The Jewish People as a Tribal Family
We are delighted to be presenting this new five-part course as a partnership of The Ark Synagogue, Kol Chai – The Hatch End Reform Jewish Community and Bristol & West Progressive Jewish Congregation. The Foundations for a Thoughtful Judaism curriculum was developed by the Shalom Hartman Institute with the aim to provide a sophisticated introduction to deep philosophical questions about Judaism related to four pillars of Jewish life: Peoplehood, Faith, Practice and Ethics.

In this first season, Rabbis Naomi Goldman, Monique Mayer, Lea Mühlstein and Aaron Goldstein will begin with a focus on Peoplehood, exploring questions related to the collective experience of Jewish life: What does it mean to be part of Jewish community? How does one enter? What is the purpose of community? Moreover, what is the value proposition of the largest umbrella of Jewish community: Jewish peoplehood? To what extent can communities and even the Jewish People hold diversity and shared values at the same time?

11 Jan - Peoplehood in the Hierarchy of Values

18 Jan - Multiple Entrances/Multiple Belongings

25 Jan - The Jewish People as a Tribal Family

1 Feb - Navigating Divisive Communities

8 Feb - What Members of a People Owe Each Other

The course is open to all who are interested. While ideally participants would aim to attend most of the sessions, all sessions are stand alone, so participants are able to as few or as many sessions as they wish.
Those registered to participate in the sessions will also receive access to recordings of the sessions.
