PPLAC presents Christopher Broughton
Inspiration, Conversation, and Education. Join photographer and educator Christopher Broughton on a visual journey exploring the “City of Lights.” Paris is often considered the birthplace of street photography ever since Charles Nègre took his camera to the streets of Paris in 1851. Broughton’s work attempts to share a glimpse of the unscripted narratives of humanity in everyday life with a sincere attempt to not influence the subject while learning to be unseen.
Photographing on the street can sometimes be compared to controlling and composing chaos but I have found that using the street as a practice field has truly enabled me to refine my seeing and more importantly the anticipation of the “decisive moment.” Broughton’s presentation will conclude with how he utilized street photography to practice and develop approaches for his series of artist portraits in Paris.
