Exploring the American Revolution/Founding Era Through StoneMy Meeting
During this program, Dr. Sara Mascia will be utilizing the headstones in the Old Dutch Church Burying Ground, a National Historic Landmark in Sleepy Hollow, New York, to many local residents who were on both sides of the American Revolution. For many of these, often invisible, individuals, their headstones are the only tangible reminders of their participation in the events leading to the founding of the United States of America. Those now interred in the Burying Ground were farmers, tailors, shoemakers, tavern keepers, millers, seamstresses, cooks, and soldiers, and each of them have important stories to contribute to the history of the Founding Era.
