Polish Town, Girl Attorney & the World War II Nisei Hero: Unraveling Ballard’s Past
What happens when you find oral histories from early Ballardites on tape cassettes in a basement, and decide they need to become part of a multi-media map? You find (and hear) treasures. The Ballard Historical Society and Special Collections of Seattle Public Library share uncovered stories thanks to a King County 4Culture Historic Preservation grant. Of interest to anyone interested in oral histories, genealogy, digital archives, maps, and connecting the paths of the past in new ways will want to attend this online presentation. Thanks to access to the original Vanishing Generation Project, SPL’s Special Collections & Genealogy, King County 4Culture, CORE GIS, Nordic National Museum, and foremost the Ballard Historical Society, there’s new light on chapters of Seattle’s past. Learn how we combined volunteer-powered research with the latest mapping technologies to bring these oral histories to life.
