SPI Jams - Amy Reid

Amy Reid is a Baltimore-based queer electronic musician, producer, sound and visual artist striving to transform spaces sonically, socially, and visually. Combining field recordings, vocals, and electronic instruments, Reid creates a sonic language that is futuristic and otherworldly yet relatable. Often seeking collaborative opportunities, her work incorporates projections, video and installation.
Since 2010, she has toured nationally and internationally in the UK and France, sharing the stage with critically acclaimed artists such as; Future Islands, Dan Deacon, SOPHIE, XIU XIU, Mykki Blanco, Princess Nokia and Boy Harsher. Ranging from DIY foundations to Museums, she has performed at The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, The Walters Art Museum, Carnegie Museum of Art, The Kennedy Center, and at the Red Bull Amaphiko Festival held in Baltimore, MD 2018. Her solo album Hirsute was hailed by Baltimore City Paper as “The Best Solo Debut of 2017” receiving attention for it’s luscious textures and vulnerable lyrics from Impose magazine and other media outlets.

This workshop is a synthesis of slowdanger's physical integration practice and is all levels. anna and taylor will provide somatic images, experiences, and sweat inducing grooves to move us through the boundaries that contain us. Together, we will create worlds in and of our bodies through textural imagery, duration, and transformational states. This movement practice allows us to open portals to sweat, shake and move through this durational quarantine towards new futures and forms through a non-hierarchical lens. We will work with iconography or phrase material, in a fluid capacity, using form as a threshold to deepen connections with each other, ourselves, and our virtual/physical spaces. This practice is informed by our durational studies in somatic practices, club/rave culture, contemporary dance, Authentic Movement, Movement Theater, Corporeal Mime, and improvisational forms.
