HAC Meeting on Trade in the INC Plastic Treaty Process
Distinguished Excellencies,

On behalf of the Quaker United Nations Office (QUNO), and the Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL), we would like to invite you to a meeting/event to discuss the trade aspects of the Treaty to end Plastic Pollution.

The United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), in its Plastics Science document published in preparation for the first Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC1), identified trade as one of the key elements to address in the Treaty to end Plastic Pollution (UNEP/PP/INC.1/7).

Given the importance of trade flows and trade policy throughout the lifecycle of plastics, and to ensure that the goal of ending plastic pollution is successfully achieved, we believe that it will be essential to ensure that negotiators pick up on discussions on international trade and plastics, and ultimately include trade-related measures as core obligations within the Treaty on Plastics. We believe that the inclusion of those measures would also help justify further trade domestic measures from a World Trade Organization Perspective.

Join us for this important webinar, and for those in Geneva for a dinner to continue the conversation!
