Always leading, Rarely Seen: Anti-Blackness as a “Root Cause” in the Global Child Rights and Protection Movement
The Always Leading, Rarely Seen Series is an opportunity to stake claim to a radical and intersectional vision for children’s rights--one that contends with racism and neo-colonialism. Racism and neo-colonialism are systemic forces that have shaped the origin stories of so many of our nations. They have redistributed human beings in service of generational wealth accumulation, and have set the stage for our current political realities. Generational wealth accumulation, environmental degradation, and protracted conflict and war disproportionately impact children and youth of color which hence cause them to become victims of economic, public health and political marginalization . Yet, global child rights and protection sectors struggle to confront this global history and how it defines the conditions children live in on a daily basis.
