Why is it (still) important to consider diversity, equity, and inclusion for minoritized and marginalized LGBTQ persons? Valuing gender and sexuality diversity and demonstrating that value through inclusive teaching practices show support for all students potentially present in our classrooms. Honoring LGBTQ persons–those we teach and those we work with–empowers us to have more impactful music-making experiences.
Conversations in this session will help us LISTEN more purposefully to the lived experiences of LGBTQ persons, TO better UNDERSTAND stories similar to and different from our own. Together, we will consider specific ways through which we can TEACH PEOPLE inclusively THROUGH MUSIC. As compassionate and passionate music teachers, we will identify resources within and beyond our communities to honor LGBTQ diversity.
