2021 marks 60 years since the passage of The Dowry Prohibition Act in 1961. In 60 years, we have forgotten its existence and importance, even as the practice of dowry spreads to newer groups and ostentation becomes the norm at weddings. Once more, we find ourselves needing to highlight this custom and its consequences.
