From 2000 to 2010, most people would agree, the most famous independent agency in the world was Crispin Porter Bogusky.
They produced the most newsworthy work, and had the most recognisable people – CEO Chuck Porter and ECD Alex Bogusky.
If there’s one phrase, attributed to Bogusky, that we all remember, it has to be “Before you write the script, write me the press release.”
But who did Alex Bogusky turn to, to write his press releases?
We don’t know the answer to that, but we do know that Steve Sapka was at CPB throughout the 2000’s. From 2009, he held the position of VP, Director of Global Communications and Media Relations for all CPB offices, including Canada and Europe.
In 2011, Steve left CPB and founded Sapka Communications, to apply his expertise and talent on behalf of other agencies.
Especially independent agencies.
He’s still getting headlines - not just in Ad Age and Campaign Brief, but in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal and the media which the real decision makers read.
Right now, he’s busy building the reputation of a new generation of US agencies like Humanaut.
And rumour has it, he had something to do with the rebrand of Payless to Palessi, which led to $20 shoes being sold for $600 in Santa Monica.
(Not to mention sitting on the Board of the US 4A’s agency public relations committee, and supporting some great causes pro bono, in work for youth at risk and animal welfare.)
We suspect Steve has some pretty interesting insights to share, on how to get your agency noticed in the age of digital and social media.
