Across the nation, single-parent homes are becoming more common. The “breakdown of the nuclear family” does not limit itself to any racial group, region, or religious affiliation. As educators, we must prepare ourselves to address typical student reactions to this situation.
This presentation will speak to the following questions:
--What are the issues associated with single-parent homes?
--How does it impact education?
--How do demographics factor into the situation?
--What are the long-term effects?
--What can we do as educators?
Information will be presented from both a personal and academic standpoint. The speaker was a single parent for several years prior to becoming an educator and has lived and studied the situation from the perspectives of both parent and teacher.
