This series of virtual tutor training sessions is to provide relevant train-the-trainer materials and teaching methods that can be delivered in a variety of formats.

Bios:

Joan Exley has worked in community literacy for over 20 years and as an educator throughout her life. Joan is the Community Literacy Outreach Coordinator for the Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy in Nelson, BC. She has a strong commitment to lifelong learning, collaborative community development, and the power of literacy to change lives.

Katia Bois has a degree in language teaching and over 10 years’ experience in this field. Over the course of her career, she has taught French as a Foreign Language to children and post-secondary students, worked as a Spanish Language & Culture specialist, and trained English tutors. Currently, Katia is an Education Coordinator at Project Literacy Central Okanagan where she helps learners achieve their literacy goals so they can have a better future.

Maureen Kehler has worked for Decoda for over 10 years and was a literacy advocate for many years before that. She has trained tutors in adult literacy programs and was involved in community development through her work as a literacy outreach coordinator. Maureen believes that by helping people develop their literacy skills, we are taking steps toward equity and inclusion.
