Edisa Weeks, DELIRIOUS Dances | Virtual Roots Party
Saturday, December 5, 3:00pm - 5:00
Join us on Zoom!

A Roots Party is an interactive making and conversation space, where people are invited to join multi-disciplinary artist Edisa Weeks in her journey of making 1,865 roots out of paper and twine. 1865 represents the year that legalized chattel slavery ended in America. The roots are part of the set for the performance installation, 3 RITES: Liberty, and will dangle from the ceiling to the floor in the performance space.

During this Virtual Roots Party, you can make roots by picking up a “Roots Kit” from KST’s Alloy Studios, Pittsburgh Center for Creative Reuse, or Braddock Carnegie Library Association. The “Roots Kit” will give you everything you need to make roots on December 5. When you log on to the Zoom call, the first 15 minutes will cover root creation instructions. You can also enjoy local food by ordering a snack box from Casa Brasil. Finally you will have a chance to engage in conversation about the research for Weeks’ forthcoming performance work following a conversation between the artist and KST Senior Producer, Ben Pryor.

After the Virtual Roots Party we ask that participants return all the roots they have constructed to KST’s Alloy Studios, Pittsburgh Center for Creative Reuse, or Braddock Carnegie Library Association by December 18, 2020. KST will then return the finished roots to Edisa and her team for use in the forthcoming presentations.
