Addiction Nation Book Study Group
The Center of Addiction and faith presents a book study with the author of Addiction Nation: What the Opioid Crisis Reveals About Us. In this book, Timothy McMahan King shares his own story of struggling with an opioid addiction while raising broader questions about what our current overdose crisis says about the church, society, and politics. McMahan King argues that the story of the overdose crisis is not one of aberrant individuals but of a collective failure that should force us all to reflect more deeply on the changes our communities and country needs.

Each session will consist of reflections from the author on the book, time for small group discussion and a chance to ask the author questions. After registration, participants will receive a 6-part study guide with additional resources and questions that will be covered in each session.

Register before June 15th and you’ll be entered to receive one of five FREE copies of the Addiction Nation audio book.

FAQ

Can I participate if I can’t make all the sessions?

Yes! While we encourage everyone to make as many sessions as possible, we understand that everyone has busy schedules. You are welcome to sign up even if you can’t be there for every time.

Will the sessions be recorded?

Yes! The main sessions will be recorded but not the breakout groups. These recordings will ONLY be available to those who register.

What if I don’t keep up with the reading?

Don’t worry. Everyone has fallen behind on their reading before. The study guide is created to give participants a sense of the themes covered in each chapter. So, even if you don’t finish that week’s reading, you can still participate in the discussion.

How many sessions will there be? How long are they?

The book study will be for six weeks. Every session will be one hour and fifteen minutes.

This book study is presented by the Center of Addiction and Faith free of charge but donations are always appreciated.
