We are delighted to announce a new programme of our popular Inspired by Islamic Art workshops. Launched last year, these artist-led courses have now been attended virtually by hundreds of people around the world and are fully established as part of our work sharing and celebrating the Islamic Art collections at Leighton House.
This new series of four workshops, Garden of Paradise, is led by acclaimed painter and illustrator Ayesha Gamiet and will study and take inspiration from the intricate design and vibrant palette of a Syrian tile panel ca.1600 to be found in an upstairs alcove in Leighton House and a glittering mosaic frieze by Walter Crane, which encircles the magical hall downstairs. The programme is moderated by ceramicist and illustrator Laurelie Rae.
Session 2: Blissful Birds
Learn how to paint some of the blissful birds that inhabit the ceramics at Leighton House. Follow the tutor’s demonstration in painting hoopoes, turtledoves, and starlings, or use techniques learned in class to paint your own choice of birds.
