Meet You on the River of Time: the North Country Boats and Boating and Paul Jamieson Collections at the St. Lawrence University Libraries
Description:

Join us for an introduction to the North Country Boats and Boating and Paul and Ruth Jamieson manuscript collections in the St. Lawrence University Libraries. These collections speak to North Country waterways through the documentary materials they provide on regional companies that emerged with the rise of recreational boating in the late nineteenth century, and, in the Jamieson manuscripts, issues related to conservation and access to waterways throughout the Adirondacks.

Along with an overview of the collections, we will discuss:

> How to talk about them–what presentations emerge from these collections?
> How they might work for different audiences–what questions about working with primary source materials do these collections lend themselves to… so on the 15th we’ll paddle upstream to ask “what” & “why?”

About the presenter:
Paul Doty began his duties as Special Collections Librarian for St. Lawrence University with the start of 2018 and has been a librarian at SLU for twenty years, and at various points in time was involved with library web development, public service, and Interlibrary Loan. Among his interests and plans for Special Collections is continuing the important work of acquiring and making available materials about the North Country and the Adirondacks. Along the way he's worked any number of campus committees, taught a variety of courses in SLU’s First Year Program, and published poems or essays in the Mississippi Review, the Great Lakes Review, Poetry Pacific, the Reference Librarian, and the Cortland Review. Paul has a B.A. in English from Keene State College, an M.A. in English from the University of Maine, and an M.L.S. from SUNY Albany.
