This course will include a review of the key elements of a good estate plan, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, advance directives and beneficiary designations. There will be a review of the risks and benefits of the various types of estate plans, a discussion about strategies to avoid or minimize Oregon’s Estate Tax liability, and the best ways to minimize taxes if you plan to include any charitable gifts in your asset distribution plan. A good estate plan provides the documents needed so family/friends have the tools they need to help you if you become incapacitated as well as the documents needed to minimize costs, taxes and the hassles associated with winding up your affairs after you pass. Do yourself and your family a favor and plan ahead. It is better to be remembered for who you were than to be remembered for the mess you left for them to clean up.
