The growth of telework and delivery services, both under way before covid but accelerated by the pandemic, will disrupt old patterns. Peak-hour, hub-and-spoke commuting may decline, while home-based tripmaking grows, affecting both auto and transit use. At the same time, the accelerating decline in bricks-and-mortar shopping will place different stresses on transportation networks and threaten to send retail-centric land uses, and the placemaking they represent, into decline.
