Equitable Teaching Practices to Improve Student Learning
In any computer science classroom, educators are challenged with how to teach coding concepts and skills to students with diverse abilities. In this workshop, CodeHS Teacher Trainer Paula Medina talks about her experiences teaching multiple programming courses with students at varying skill levels during a single class period. Paula will share her strategies for creating a classroom learning community that is equitable and empowering for students at any level of ability. No matter the programming language you teach, you will come away from this workshop with strategies you can use in your classroom immediately.

In 2018, Paula Medina was tasked with building the CS program at Brian McMahon High School in Norwalk, CT. She implemented CodeHS, and their program grew from 40 students to over 350 in just four years. Paula teaches JavaScript, AP CSA, and AP CS Principles. In her prior life, Paula was a software engineer/IT executive.
