Barefoot Shakespeare Presents Troilus and Cressida
Set in 1952, against the backdrop of the Korean War, this production of Shakespeare’s
Troilus and Cressida is a darkly comedic exploration of one of his lesser known tragedies and a gleeful skewering of the humanity, misogyny, boredom and romance that come from being trapped in a conflict with no clear resolution. Using the Trojan war as a vehicle for an allegorical re-telling of the Korean War, Troilus and Cressida begins in the middle of the ten year Trojan War where Greeks and Trojans are deadlocked over conflicting claims to Helen of Troy, the wife of Spartan king Menelaus. Blood has been shed on both sides of the war and neither side intends to yield to the demands of the other.
