Esports in Higher Education: First Steps and Next Steps
Esports is one of the fastest growing areas of curricular and cocurricular programming on college campuses and was one of the few programs that picked up energy as we moved through the pandemic.

Join Ryan Arnett, Charles Hueber, and George McClellan, co-authors of Esports in Higher Education: Fostering Successful Student-Athletes and Successful Programs, for this interactive discussion about the why, how, and what of building esports programs on your campus. The session will also include information on potential legal, policy, and practice pitfalls that can spell trouble for esports programs.

The conversation will be helpful for those considering esports programming, getting ready to develop esports programming, or looking to enhance esports programming.

Panelists:
Ryan S. Arnett has been involved with esports for the last 7 years and counting. Arnett has been a competitive player, analyst, recruiter, coach, and team owner in the world of esports, most notably as the current owner of HammerHead Gaming, an organization that competes, provides entertainment, and offers agency services to players in the industry.

Dr. Charles M. Hueber currently serves as Dean of Students at Schreiner University. He is a self-proclaimed nerd and has a passion for ESPORTS and gaming and has spent the past few years conducting his scholarly research on the impact of ESPORTS on universities and colleges. Recently he started an Esports company, 4004 Esports, that helps colleges and other non-profit groups build and offer esports programming.

Dr. George S. McClellan is an Associate Professor of Higher Education at the University of Mississippi. Prior to joining students and colleagues there, he served students for 35 years in a variety of student affairs professional positions including service as senior student affairs officer at both Indiana University – Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) and Dickinson State University.
