Pilgrim Church Progressive Christian Book Club reading "Christians Against Christianity" by Dr. Obery Hendricks

This book club will be reading "Christians Against Christianity:​
How Right-Wing Evangelicals Are Destroying Our Nation and Our Faith", by the Rev. Dr. Obery Hendricks. In this comprehensive, yet imminently readable, review of the flawed theology of right-wing evangelicalism, Dr. Hendricks cites chapter and verse of the writings of the leading lights of the movement and contrasts them with chapters and verses from the Bible. He not only eviscerates the right-wing distortions of the Christian faith but makes a compelling case for his presentation of liberal Christianity and its focus on social justice. Covering topics from racism, to misogyny and the environment, Dr. Hendricks leads us on a tour-de-force explication of what the Christian faith has to offer our historical moment. We will read the book over three weeks, again with Tuesday afternoon and Thursday evening sessions. The highlight of the book club will be a Sunday after church Forum featuring the author, Dr. Obery Hendricks on Sunday March 26th at 11:30 a.m.
