Nonprofit boards play a vital role in guiding their organizations to deliver on mission and creating a better future for communities. Ensuring each board director has a strong understanding of the foundational principles of governance is crucial to a well-functioning collective. Board governance, when done poorly, can lead to a host of dysfunctions such as micromanagement, inefficient processes, rogue decision-making, reduced community impact, and more. No matter the size or scope of your organization, taking the time to make sure the board is engaged and aligned is critical.
Our Principles of Governance workshop incorporates three interconnected areas of responsibility – fiduciary, strategic, and generative – and the board’s role in focusing the entire organization and working together as a whole. This workshop will be of value to new board members and offers fresh perspective for experienced board directors.
Participants will come away from this workshop with:
• A strong understanding of the principles of good governance and the foundations of working together effectively as a board.
• Clarity on the roles and responsibilities of individual board members and the board as a collective.
• A firm grasp on the relationship and authority between board and staff, the role of the senior executive, and how they work with each other.
• Strategies for how to move beyond fiduciary governance into strategic thinking and future opportunities.
*Note that a recording will be available for registrants after the session.
