THURSDAY GROUP: Man and His Symbols
Lead by Don Troyer, MD, Jungian Analyst

In Man and his Symbols Jung builds his case for dreams being a chief carrier of symbol production. Dreams speak in the language of symbols: image plus affect creates attention-getting stories and memorable images which cause the everyday mind to stop and take notice, even if the experience defies understanding, in fact, especially so! Dreams function as compensatory to ego-consciousness, seeking balance and incarnation of vital energies to enliven and guide consciousness. Dreams image archetypal themes encased in one’s personal complexes, feeling-toned collections of memory, myth and instinct. Dreams mediate the goal of individuation via incarnation of the Self, the central archetype of order. If you care to do some reading before the group: Man and his Symbols, Part one: pp 18-103
