CAIS - National conversation to explore relationships with Indigenous Communities
As educational institutions we know how valuable it is for our students and young people to learn and mature within environments where they are encouraged to embrace their individuality within a richly diverse and supportive community. We welcome students and staff of all cultures, ethnicities, socioeconomic backgrounds, gender identities, religions, and sexual orientations, and believe that our community is strengthened by this diversity of perspectives.

With this belief comes a commitment to learning from each other and leaning into difficult discussions in order to grow our understanding. We strive to ensure that every member of our community feels a strong sense of confidence and belonging, reflective of who they are, and that they leave our schools with an understanding of how they can contribute to society in a positive and meaningful way.

We know that fostering a truly equitable and inclusive community requires dedication and continual focus. We also know that access is a key requisite to ensuring a rich depth of representation across these groups.

Moderated by David Darby, Assistant Head: Enrolment Management, Lakefield College School, the CAIS - National conversation to explore relationships with Indigenous Communities in Independent Schools is designed to bring together CAIS community participants to connect on issues and share stories surrounding our communities’ connections with Canadian indigenous populations (First Nations, Métis, Inuit and urban). This 2 hour discussion will be grounded in the foundational question: How do we as independent schools ensure awareness and access to these underrepresented groups; thereby, positively increasing the breadth and depth of Indigenous student perspectives found within CAIS schools?

We invite School Leaders within the CAIS Community to join us on Thursday, November 25 (1:00pm - 3:00pm EST) to hear from and engage in conversation with our guest speakers.
